We got London on da Track

Producers are often overlooked in Hip Hop. You don’t see them much and you rarely hear their names, but they are absolutely essential. Without producers, there would be nothing but lyrics. One such producer is London on da Track. The 25 year old has worked with artists such as Waka Flocka Flame, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, T.I., 50 Cent, Travis Porter, Trae tha Truth, 2 Chains, Ty Dolla Sign and Rich Kidz.

London Holmes started out as a 16 year old rapper in Atlanta, GA. He and his fellow group members of Dem Guyz used to download beats off of SoundClick for $.99 each. Having a background in playing the piano in church, Holmes put piano music with these beats. He made them for Dem Savages and Rich Kidz in addition to his group. Soon after, people began asking for his custom beats. He didn’t charge for them because he just wanted to get his name out there. Rich Kidz’s song “Pieon” was the first beat he made that aired on the radio. He continued to give away beats until his label deal with Cash Money Records in 2014.

Around 2009, he recorded a collaboration with rapper Young Thug called “Curtains”. Young Thug said Holmes was his favorite producer and that he would become “the greatest producer ever”. Rapper and C.E.O of Cash Money Records, Birdman also commented on his talent as a producer saying he is “the best producer in the business, as we speak today”. In the summer of 2014, London on da Track had three singles on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at the same time.
Beats are just as important, if not more, than lyrics in Hip Hop music. Being referred to as “the best” is quite an accomplishment considering the young age of this man. He has certainly found his nitch in the booming industry of Hip Hop. It will be interesting to hear what else he has in store for us. When you hear the phrase “We got London on da Track”, you know it’s going to be a hit.
